REVISITED
REVISITED started in late 2015 with a desire to question the medial parameters of 360° video, which as a practice began to establish itself more and more at that stage. The project set out to draw attention to the fundamental shifts between 360° video and the two dominant media of our time—photography and film. In order to create a viewer experience of medial and topographical developments over time, a site was needed where a ‘then and now’ could be staged: a place that already existed as representation, and that had previously been captured through photography and/or film. Ed Ruscha’s ‘Every Building on the Sunset Strip’ (1966) emerged as an ideal frame of reference and point of departure. That's why I – half a century later – rendered its 2.4 kilometers in a media-conscious manner through 360° video, creating a deliberate juxtaposition of timelines and media practices in an interactive media installation, that allows the audience to experience these differences first hand. The insights gained from this juxtaposition led to a series of artworks exploring the possibilities and challenges of today’s multi-medial reality. Under the umbrella terms 'Source Footage Collages' and 'Collage in the Age of Automation', the project examines the temporal, spatial, contextual, and performative qualities of the installation and its contents, while further addressing immersive and experiential dimensions, including the creative potential of audio across physical, virtual, and game-based environments.
